Following the success of the EU-funded project on investments in sport, the Croatian Olympic Committee is implementing a new project in the field of sport economy. Title of the project is ‘Economic dimension of volunteering in sport’. Project aim is to contribute to harmonisation of methodology for measuring the economic impact of volunteering in sport across Europe. Harmonisation creates a better understanding of the economic impact of sport on national economies and provides a sound basis for political actions to increase the social utility of sport in Europe.
Volunteering is a hallmark of European sport. Members of the project team will not only create a methodology for measuring the value of volunteering in sport but test it through pilot research. Study on the economic dimension of volunteering in sport will be produced to promote the use of harmonised methodology in the field of sport in Europe.
To kick-off the project, members of the project team met on 21 February 2020 in Vienna. It coincided with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, preventing some of the members to travel, and for that reason a follow-up meeting was organised on 2 March 2022 in Zagreb.
During the two meetings, details related to the implementation of the project and its successful completion were discussed. Some partners were unable to attend the second meeting as well but were later briefed on all important matters and received a full documentation.
